There is provided use of orally available or topically applied deferiprone for prevention of iron-induced eye damage. There is also provided the use of deferiprone for treatment of iron-related eye disorders. The use may be for preparation of a medicament or in a method of treatment of damage to an eye of a having eye damage associated with iron, the method comprising topically administering a therapeutically effective amount of deferiprone to the subject.
