Abstract
Provided is a method for manufacturing a ring-shaped glass spacer to be disposed so as to contact a magnetic disk within a hard disk drive device, the method comprising a process for forming a film on the surface of a glass spacer body which constitutes the glass spacer. In this process, the film is formed by passing the glass spacer body through a location where the components of the film are in an atomized state, while rotating the outer circumferential end surface of the glass spacer body in the circumferential direction. Due to this configuration, a glass spacer can be obtained in which the entire surface thereof is coated with a conductive film comprising tin oxide, zinc oxide, and titanium oxide. Further, a glass spacer can be obtained in which the thickness of the film on an end surface of the glass spacer is greater than the thickness of the film on a primary surface of the glass spacer.
